Pay when it's done
Your pro marks the job complete with before-and-after photos. Only then is your card actually charged. Then you leave a review.
The part most people ask about
When you approve an estimate, your bank places a temporary hold for the estimated amount plus a small buffer. That buffer exists so that if your pro finds the job is bigger than the photos suggested, the adjusted price is already covered and you don't have to re-enter your card.
A hold is not a charge. If you cancel before the work starts, the hold is released and you are never billed. If the final price comes in lower than the estimate, you are charged the lower amount.
If a pro wants to charge substantially more than the estimate, that becomes a proposal you have to approve — it is never applied silently.
